Bridge health monitoring system, which is highly important for ensuring bridges'security and applicability, commonly, contains field monitoring system and remote evaluating system. Thereinto, field monitoring system is able to get simultaneously all kinds of information which reflect the status of bridge structure and provide scientific proof for the analysis the health state. Now, it still has some defects, such as large power consumption, low stability, long developing periods, high developing cost, so developing a minitype field monitoring system for bridges has important economic and engineering significance.This dissertation expounds the development actuality of field monitoring system, discusses the embedded Ethernet technology and its application in bridge monitoring. Then, a minitype field monitoring system based on embedded Ethernet technology is designed and discussed and its functional requirements and the meaning of commonality are analyzed.In hardware system, C8051F120 is at the core, the external parts contain clock systems, data storage systems, network communications hardware, etc. As its small size, low power consumption, simpleness to install and debug, it's very adaptive for the field monitoring environment.Software system, based on the real time operation systemμC/OS-Ⅱ, can meet the commonality needs and improve the response speed and stability of the system. AsμC/OS-Ⅱhas not communication function, embedded TCP/IP protocol stackμIP is carried out. The paper focuses on expatiating the characteristic, principle and transplant ofμC/OS-Ⅱand developing network communication, discussing the system's multi-task design and scheduling some important function module with modular idea, such as real-time clock, data storage, regular acquisition module, sensors self-diagnosis, etc. Thereinto, field communication control module controls data collection from 485 network; clock module implements real time clock; sensors self-diagnosis module implements a reliable convenient method for sensor fault diagnosis with time series analysis.To verify the effectiveness and stability, the system was debugged in laboratory and run for a long time, and the experimental data were analyzed. Experiments show that the system is effective and achieves the desired objectives and requirements and meets the desired objectives and requirements.
