With the improvement of industrial automation, international automatic assembly and testing technology has been widely applied into various fields. However, china's industrial background is very poor and there still exists a great gap in industrial production between china and developed countries. In recent 20 years, although China develops rapidly to achieve tremendous achievements, the productive technology in the field of high-performance Initiating Explosive Devices (IED) is still comparatively backward due to many objective factors. Foreign countries all take strict blockade measures because production equipment of high-quality IED involves in some sensitive industrial technology and national defense technology. The dose is the"heart"of IED and pressing powder assembly is the key process to its production. Because China's IED pressing powder mainly used to be manually operated or adopted mechanical auxiliaries of lower automaticity, it is hard not only to meet the stability of the pressing process and modern production requirements, but also to guarantee the quality of pressing powder and meantime there exist some hidden safety troubles. To solve this problem, the only way is to independently develop high-performance automation of pressing powder equipment so as to ensure its quality and improve production efficiency and safety reliability.This subject comes from precision pneumatic presses research project of aerospace department. The paper mainly completes a control system design and development of pneumatic press, which will automatically finish the whole process of pressing powder including pressurization, keeping pressure and releasing pressure. Starting from the performance needs, control requirements and machine safety guarantee of the pneumatic press, this paper designs the control system hardware and software parts based on giving full consideration to the various control system modules. And the designed pneumatic press is taken as the experimental platform to test and obtain lots of experimental data, and then the relevant system modeling theory and experimental modeling are used to calculate, and gain the reference mathematical model of the pneumatic press system so as to lay the foundation for the controller design and parameters tuning of the pneumatic press. In press pneumatic circuit, it is adopted balance loop of exhaust throttling and used high-precision electrical proportional valve for gas supply control. Safety control system is used the multiple security measures of hardware protection and software control of mechanical electricity. Control algorithm is based on the established model and feedback-plus-feedforward compound control system is adopted to respectively do the setting of feedback controller and feedforward parameters and achieve satisfactory control effects, successfully solving instability of the pneumatic cylinder movement and the control difficulty of output pressure so as to enhance the safety and reliability of the press.Finally, the result reveals that the design of the whole control system is successful and effective by the testing and tracking of the pneumatic press operation. Its pressure accuracy, efficiency, stability and safety have all achieved the expected goals. The software interface map of system control is friendly and convenient to use. At present, some equipment have been put into production and run steadily and brought considerable economic benefits.
