Materials management aims at keeping material flow in order, normal material flow suggests that the plan goes smoothly. For material management, material is capital, which is considered to have time value. The cost of machine products includes 45 to 75 percent of those which spent on material, therefore, to lower the cost, the value of supplies on hand should be emphasized, besides, the speed of turning over its stock should be higher.At present, the material management of most domestic companies is limited to warehouse management while they cannot conduct effective management on others important information in the process from purchasing to final product assembly, such as the lot-size of order quantity and material feed quantity, the flow of materials among or in the workshop, and they cannot pay enough attention to the system of material flow and the product line management, even the combination of the whole company's ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system.This thesis aims at solving the problems above and puts forward a functional material management system, which can make it come true that effectively managing the process from purchasing to the final product assembly. Analyzing the characteristics of mechanical product, the thesis advances the structure system, the data interaction system and the functional mode, and this proposal applies UML (Unified Modeling Language) to analyze the demands and construct the mode, besides, Power Designer is also supplied for the data base of the material management system. And then there are strategies to solve the problems in lot-size order quantity and feed quantity mode about when purchasing and comes out the calculating results with examples. With the B/S (Browser/Server) format, the thesis follows the structure of J2EE. Finally, the thesis presents the functional examples of the system, concludes the researches in this field, and advances more suggestions and ideas about future development.This system is being applied in XX Corporation now and has achieved satisfactory effects that we expected.
