Establishment of national image is a common issue faced by nations all over the world under the circumstance of globalization. In recent years, our government has a stronger national image awareness along with the rapid development of economy in China and the raise of international status, all kinds of external propagation activities were launched in succession. This is a historical progress. However, in term of China, establishment of national image is a completely new area in practice. We have difficulties in handling many regular things, some notions and thread are still need to be adjust in place, which greatly influences the effect of communication and shaping of our national imageGlobalization of economy and modernization of communication, prompt a rapid transform from industry society to information society, dramatically increase the value of image as the carrier of information. People's self-awareness rise to a level of higher than ever before, and issue of image has been frequently raised to strategical height which ensures a great opportunity and profound realistic foundation for the birth of Imagology. Research on national image emerged under this circumstance.National image belongs to dual-category of communication and public relationship science. As this reason, the paper will base on the analyzation of different understanding of national image, from the concept of national image, scientifically apply theories including public relationship science,communication and sociology, innovatively develop a new method, analyze the comparison of difference between"how to propagete"and"how to establish"of national image, to further apply Agenda Setting theory,typically analyze the transform of self-shape and else-shape of the national image of China and US in historical progress, try to find a complete new point in analyzation on equiping mass media with strategical vision and tactical procedure on how to communicate and shape national image. Last but not least, powerful public relations are a necessary supplement to media strategy of shaping national image.The paper analyze in six sections:the first section gives a definition of national image to further explore the culture core and components factor after systhesizing the statements of national image from a certain number of domestic experts. The second part states separately of the shaping and propagation of national image, analyzes the difference between shaping and propagation of national image from the progress of propagation to the way of shaping. The third section emphsizes in that how media influences the national image through agenda-setting , with proof presented. The fourth and fifth parts state separately on the progress of self-shape and else-shape of establshment of US and China, pointing out the problems through the phenomenon, and further explore the media strategy of our national image in future. The last one introduces related notions of the public relationship science, analyze the inmeasurable contributions to the establishment of national image from media as a supplementation.Base on this reason, the paper analyzes the status of quandary - distortion of our national image in"external communication", specially release a concept of"communication and shape of national image"which is advanced with the times, means that through communication of information our media will play an important role in shaping of national image.
