As more companies use the networked storage technology to build their storage systems, there are more demands and challenges in storage management. The developing trend of storage and service management is to be unified.To cope with the challenges brought by heterogeneous storage management environment and the realization of inter-operating, the Storage Network Industry Association (SNIA) created the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) and the storage management interface based on open standards. Through the analysis of the Specification, and based on the iSCSI storage system, the technology of how to build SMI-S based networked storage management system is studied.The SMI-S defined the Object-Oriented management structure for storage systems, including the description of physical devices and logical functions. Based on the structure, the objects about the storage system is chose and the resource management architecture is built according to the associations of all the objects. The Objects is divided into three types, such as the Instances, Associations and the Methods. All the Objects are described into C++ classes on the OpenPegasus software platform, and the interface of communicate with the kernel module of iSCSI storage system is realized.To use the structure manage the resources, Providers based on Common Information Model (CIM) need to be built on all the devices. To support the access and control service of objects, three Providers need to be realized according to the three types of objects.A system oriented client is realized to verify the function of the management system. Through the client, administrators can communicate with Providers in the devices from the remote. The management functions are realized by accessing and controlling all the objects of the structure built in the devices.Connected to the devices through the client to operate the management objects of the resources, and the information is obtained. The technical feasibility of the implementation of the system is verified through the functional test.
