With the development of economic, traffic problem is more and more serious, and an important role is played in it by the urban traffic control system. Based on these, the traffic coordination control sytem is studied. A coordinated control way based on rules is introduced, in which an intersection is coordinated with the adjacent intersections. In tadditional urban traffic control system, lots of caculations should be carried, and moreover, much time should be taken but the demand for real time can't be satisfied. All of these can be improved by the way introduced in this thesis.The theory and composement of the urban traffic system are analysed in this thesis, then an urban traffic signal coordinated control policy based on rules is introduced. First of all, based on the distributed theory, the controlling of every intersection is parted into two layers: the single control layer and the coordinated control layer. The calculation of macthing parameters in the single intersection is carried by the single control layer, and the coordinated control of adjacent intersections is taken by the coordinated control layer. Secondly, the self-adaptive control arithmetic which is based on phase chosen in the single intersection, and the coordinated control rules based on most green wave band width are introduced. Based on these control rules, the right control strategies are adjusted and the best control means are chosen with the detected vehicle flows. As these completed, the optimized aim of the most road using and the least resorted vehicles can be achieved.As a Discrete Event Systems, the traffic control system is concurrence and conflicts, and Petri net is the most extensive and effective method for Discrete Event System modeling. In this thesis models of the single and multi-junction intersection control systems are established with Coloured Petri net, and the simulation results of these models are analysed.
