Interactive 3D graphics are a powerful medium for communication, education and entertainment. But till now, the use of 3D graphics tectnology is not as much popular as 2D graphics. One important reason is that 3D data is extremely complex and expensive to create,and the design of application that using 3D data is also rather complex, and usually depands on proprietary software/hardware platforms; Anthor reason is that there hasn't a uniform and effective 3D file encoding format in 3D area.In this article, after analysis of background studies ,native and overseas status, and avolution, a U3D file player system will be the first to bedesigned and developed based on Universal 3D, called U3D for short. U3D is a 3D graphics format developed by Intel and the 3D Industry Forum (3DIF) for sharing 3D drawings on the Web and in common office applications. Otherwise, it advances the widespread use of 3D graphics by providing a uniform standard for 3D file format. Except for playing U3D file, this player can have some real-time interactation function. The player will change 3D data depending on our need, by using the 3D data opreration technology.U3D File player system runs steadily on Windows 2000 platform and above. In addition to playing U3D file, it also achieved run-time interactive function like observation point conversion, highlighting model, increasing 2D characters, changing light patterns, changing model resolution, and so on. U3D file player system use mainstream MFC as its basic framework, not dependent on any proprietary 3D software. Thus, the player system will be easily embedded into mainstream business applications or in combination with them.
