Study And Implement Of Java Virtual Machine On The Digital Television Middleware

With the rapidly development of Digital TV, there are several new problems. How to speed up the various complex applications development, and reduce the researching and producing circle. It is a huge task to shadow the differences and details of the hardware platforms, and reuse the old modules. The Middle Ware technology, which is well used in the distributed heterogeneous field, and the Java technology, which is Object Oriented, and easily to transplant, can be used to solve the problem in Digital TV. The Middle Ware technology plays an increasing important role to speed the Digital TV development.It tries to introduce the Java technology to the Digital TV software field. The Sun Microsystems, Inc has defined the white paper for the Java Virtual Machine, and introduced several architectures for different application fields. The CDC Java Virtual Machine can be applied in the Digital TV software. After a deep study of the Middle Ware and Java Virtual Machine technology, as well as all the interfaces between the Java platform and the host operating system, the Java virtual machine is ported to the ST5105 platform. Several modules, including the file system, multi-tasks scheduling, JNI interfaces, semaphores, events, and the Microwindows graphic engine, are modified for the special platform.The test result shows that this Java virtual machine could works fine. However, there are many functions to be improved.
