With the development of global market and internet technique, a new product development often needs collaborative design and group decision of multi-enterprises, multi-spaces and multi-subjects.The software of real-time collaborative design is a basic tool for processing long-distance collaborative work. Simulating the nature attributes of collaborative work for the expert groups in network environment can shorten the development period of product, lessen misconstrue in the design process and improve efficiency. This thesis focuses on real-time collaborative environment and its some key technologies.The technology of large-data models'transmission is studied. The difficulties of implementation of this technology and the feasibility of applying the stream method to transmit models are analyzed,. Then a probably flow of stream transmission is presented.During the research on simplification of 3D models, the normal methods in this area are analyzed and arranged to two classes: static and dynamic. The deletion method of geometry elements is introduced in detail. A new model-simplified method which combines with Genetic Algorithm and geometry elements deletion is proposed. Through the case studies, it is proved to be very effectual.Some system structures of collaborative design are analyzed. Based on the mixed structure and according to the demand of the system, the framework of visual platform is built and some key technologies are introduced. Besides, this thesis explains how to make the interfaces consistent and avoid the operation conflicts.Based on the research work, CollabVue, which is the prototype of this system is developed. The function structure and working flow are introduced. And then some examples are given to illustrate the functions of the prototype.Finally, a conclusion is presented and further research is pointed out.
