With the rapid development of Internet Technology, many applications that based on IP technology are moving towards to broadband, real-time and multimedia etc. The Multimedia over Internet Protocol (MoIP) is a typical example among these technologies. MoIP means transporting voice, video, data and other multimedia information over Internet Protocol (IP) network.MoIP Gateway, as an implementation of Residential Gateway (RG) device, is based on MoIP technology. The functions and services it can provide, such as IP sharing, VoIP gateway, video call, Internet TV, online surveillance etc, are all based on IP. The traditional IP network uses Best-Effort method and cannot classify the data flows and guarantee the corresponding level of Quality of Service (QoS). It cannot satisfy some application's strict requirement of bandwidth and delay. This problem will weaken the function of MoIP Gateway and hinder the deployment of MoIP technology. It is necessary to excogitate a solution to QoS problems of MoIP Gateway.The thesis first discusses the existing QoS problems in the application scenes of MoIP Gateway and analyzes the current technology about IP QoS. After analyzing the key technology referring to QoS problem according to the requirement and the QoS problem of MoIP Gateway, the thesis designs and implements the QoS module of MoIP Gateway. In the QoS module, the thesis puts forward a packet classification and transmission mechanism, which supports Differentiated Services and hierarchical priority. By using this QoS module, the MoIP Gateway can guarantee the bandwidth of the traffic with a higher priority first and can support Differentiated Services. The effect of this QoS module is verified through the testing cases and meets the requirements.The MoIP Gateway that adopts this QoS module has been put into market. It can obviously improve the QoS of audio, video and other services in real applications. And this QoS module can be used by similar systems for reference.
