Study On The "Pseudo-Environment" Constructed By News Media

The famous American scholar Walter Lippman proposed the theory of "pseudo-environment",he regarded that the mass media couldn't reflect the realistic environment as a mirror but to transfer the information by chosing and reconstructing the events in the world.The mass media just forms a pseudo-environment,but the audiences think it as a true environment.But how the mass media construct the pseudo-environment?The journalism scholars haven't pay enough attention to this issue so far.This article focus on analysing the methods that how the news media construct the pseudo-environment,by the way of cases studying based on the theory of "pseudo-environment".The news media reports the events through the way of agenda-setting and news planning,to form a pseudo-environment of events.It forms a pseudo-image of figures,by making a virtual image of people and giving symbolic significance to them.It also forms a pseudo-environment of opinion by steering public opinion.The mass media can expand people's vision by reporting lots of events in the world,but it also brings some negative impact to people when it deviates from or distorts reality.In order to handle the pseudo-environment better,we should strengthen the supervision and construction of the news media,improve the quality of journalists,upgrade the people's capacity of understanding the media information through media education.The author tries to provide some suggestion to the news media and the audiences by this article,in order to remind the people using the media information correctly,recognizing the real world better.
