The first laser soon had been invented, the solar-pumped laser immediately is published. In view of the fact that solar energy pumped laser'characteristics, although alexandrite cannot be the preferred material, in terms of the present research situation, there is also the great potential prospects for development. The solar-pumped laser'appearance has exploited new domain in technology of making use of the solar energy. In space, the solar energy resources specially is richer, solar radiation intensity is nearly not limited by time and climatic conditions. If we can fully use these energy to serve for the humanity, that is the great practical significance. The solar energy laser is mainly used in wireless energy transfer in the space, spatial photo-countermeasure technology well as free space optical-communication.Solar-pumped alexandrite laser design is researched in the paper. First the paper generally introduced the characteristics of each part of the solar-pumped alexandrite laser, including the characteristics of several kinds of concentrators, the solar spectrum radiation as well as alexandrite crystal, and they are the foundation in designing the laser.Then the solar-pumped alexandrite 50W laser emphatically has designed, and when the output mirror transmissibility is 2% and 3%, the rod diameter is 4mm and 5mm as well as the slab thickness is 3mm and 4mm, laser threshold, slope efficiency, sun-laser efficiency as well as light source area and so on are calculated in theory, and I also has considered the laser gain saturated question. Finally based on the computed results, I has worked in comparative analysis.The last part mainly has calculated heat quantity which the solar-pumped alexandrite laser absorbs when output power is 50W. Adopting two methods, one directly uses the solar spectrum radiation intensity, and other kind indirectly uses the 5900K black body radiation intensity. Every one has strong point. In terms of the heat quantity which obtained, the heat quantity which the laser needed to disperse has been gained, and as a result of the outer space cold environment, it is suggested the heat pipe technology is applied in disperse heat. Also because the alexandrite has the unique temperature characteristic, I have discussed the alexandrite laser operating temperature, estimating the best operating temperature in end.The paper mainly emphasized the theoretical calculation, and combined theoretical analysis. This will be able to have the instruction function to the later experiment.
