Nowadays it is very difficult to reuse and share information among the Logistics Information Systems, and there exists semantic heterogeneity while exchanging information and communicating among different Logistics platforms, which brings difficulties to integrate complex logistics business and construct the Fourth Logistics platform. This paper unifies complex logistics concepts in semantic by introducing Ontology to Logistics Information System. Specific measures include:This paper analyses the process and principles of constructing domain ontology and puts forward the steps, then by analyzing the logistics business and collects the operational data, constructs a logistics ontology which expresses the semantic that the traditional relational databases cannot express in accordance with the steps. On the basis of the logistics ontology, this paper analyses the logistics business rules and develops the rule files by using the concepts and properties in the logistics ontology. It is easy to parse the ontology and get the clear concepts and relations by using Jena. However, because of the complex dependence in the ontology concepts, it needs an inference system to abstract the potential and unclear information. This paper uses the rule-based inference engine which is supplied by Jena inference subsystem. Rules contain two parts: one is transformed from the axioms and restrictions in the ontology and the other is the logistics business rules. In business decision-making process, the inference engine reasons with the logistics ontology and rules and obtain potential information so as to provide better decision-making scheme for business staff. Finally, the inference system based on ontology and rule is applied to the Garments Ration process in logistics domain, which indicates the effect of the inference system in the business decision-making process and displays its functions. In conclusion, to construct a logistics ontology is advantageous for standardizing and sharing information among the logistics enterprises, and to establish the logistics rules can make the complex business easy for the operational staff, which provides the foundation for the research and application of semantic web for logistics domain, and makes it possible to realize the overall logistics optimization.
