With the progress of the multimedia technology, many kinds of audio/video formats and relevant interfaces come forth, from AV/SVideo/YCbCr commonly used in VCD and VGA used by PC to DVI and HDMI added for DVD and EVD, and so on. Since each of these formats or interfaces has been broadly used in many fields and lots of video sources relevant popularize, so all of these formats and interfaces will exist together for a long time. On the other hand, HDTV is becoming the main stream of the TV market. In order to satisfy users with all kinds of video application, in addition to supporting the TV channel, HDTV must be compatible of all the formats mentioned above. Because there are many differences among these formats on the coding method and transmiting technology, it's a big challenge to the software design of HDTV to combine them tegether. In fact many problems just come out because of this. For test engineers, it is a big burden to find out the exact cause to these problems and this process also takes a long time. So it's necessary for us to develop a set of aotumatic detection system of HDTV channels, which can be very helpful to our development of the software system.This paper is part of the task named"The tools of Raisingsun for software debugging and updating". The total aim of this task is to develop a set of tools based on PC, which can debug and test the software on line. The aim of this paper is to establish the frame of the tool and impletement the function of automatic detection of all channels. This paper contain the following content: main visual interface of the software, the equipment of remote control based on the parallel port, serial communication between TV and PC, database operation of testing result. Through the visual interface users can operate the software. PC uses the parallel port to control the HDTV. HDTV sends ACK information to PC using serial communication. The database is used to store the results of channel detection.At present, all of the software and hardware modals have been completed. The system is working stably and is proved to be applicable.
