As an emerging comprehensive information technology, Virtual Reality integrates the latest achievements of several kinds of information technology and is applied to all walks of life. As we all know, China is a powerful country in ocean. Including the marine environment virtual reality technology, the marine technology plays a vital role in its national economy. In it, the modeling and rendering of the ocean scenes is the first to be done to enhance the trueness and interactivity of the ocean scene. All of the above include many specific technologies, such as the large-scale terrain rendering, the representation of ocean water and water scenes. In the process of the implementation of the technology, real-time should first be ensured, then at the same time optimize the function. The marine environment VR can be divided into two stages: modeling and rendering. The present work is also focused on designing better algorithms of the two stages to enhance the trueness and interactivity and reduce the calculation amount. At present, most innovative work is focused on the two stages, which also gets good effect, but there still exists many problems to be solved.By analyzing the usual algorithms for modeling and rendering of the marine environment VR, a new algorithm is presented in this paper, which includes the block-based LOD to accelerate the speed of rendering and to make the modeling more real and the Ray-Tracing-Principle-based one to produce and soften the shadows, which also improves its trueness. At the same time, during the calculation process, Impostor technique is adopted to simplify the calculation. The experiment results prove that the algorithms presented in this paper is very effective in both the realness and the speed.
