This paper introduces the essentiality and advantage of real-time application in shipboard phased array radar by applying RTOS (Real- Time Operating System) , based on the practical project. This paper try to study the operating principle of RTOS, and also introduces the method of multitask deploying, priority assignment of multitask. The drivers of a standard RTOS device, as well as its working principle are introduced. And configuration techniques of PCI bus in real-time multitask operating system are illustrated. Then, an application based on VxWorks is presented to analyze some familiar problems in RTOS applications, which consist of the process to boot a system, interrupt service designing, and device driver designing. Due to relations between hardware and software, according to the PCI device, the non-standard interface device driver, is implemented by combining task and interrupt service routine.Adopting hiberarchy idea, this paper builds a framework of real-time network communication software, discusses the UDP protocol socket network programming based on RTOS, and completes the design of real-time communication software. And especially emphasizes critical resources protecting, memory mapping, DMA data transfer, interrupt handling and cache coherency issues in RTOS design. The realtime-embeded systems have made a great progress in many industrial control, military afairs, aerospace, aeroplane, PDA and so on fields. Both theory and practice are introduced in this paper and the goal of this paper is to help developers to know more about the RTOS and make use of RTOS more efficiently in real-time application.
