Phased array antennas are widely employed in radar, communication and weather field etc. The problem of calibration of aperture distribution and diagnoses of faults is very important to assure the proper performance of the radar in modern large active phased array radar systems. A built-in performance-monitoring/fault isolation and correction (PM/FIC) system is desirable for phased array radar systems.This paper expounds that errors of the array effect on the performance of the antennas by analyzed the performance of the phased array antennas and how to correct the errors. Author demonstrates the technique of measurement and calibration for phased array antennas by researched before. The effect of multipath that electromagnetic wave spreads in the space or network and how to resolve it, how to measure wideband system are studied. The paper describes design method for internal monitor or external monitor of built-in measurement system in brief.Finally, this paper studies a utility phased array antennas, introduces the performance of the antennas. By analyzing the performance of the antennas, the scheme of both internal monitor and external monitor is confirmed. Measurement dynamic and error are simulated for the measurement system. The scheme is proved doable by experiment result.
