Underground pipeline network is a kind of important basic establishment of modern production and living. Making use of the technology of geographic information system, urban underground pipeline network information can be managed and stored into computer orderly in order to update data and share resource. Because pipelines distribute underground, planar graph can not express the distribution intuitively. Through figure map only, realizing spatial disposal of underground pipeline up and down becomes impossible. So when pipelines are processed and maintained in construction, some accidents happen. Three-dimension graph can be used to resolve the problem.During the process of design and study on underground pipeline network information system, analyzing the current situation and existing problems of underground pipeline network, in the full investigation of the overall system for the analysis and design. Firstly, this paper discusses the conception and application of underground pipeline system. Then it brings out pipeline visualization and its application significance. And then discusses the key technology of underground pipeline management system's development, including merits and shortcomings of three-dimensional visualization technology,COM GIS,MapX and OpenGL work principle. Secondly, through analyzing pipeline data traits and spatial topology relationship of pipeline data, establishing three-dimensional data model and data structure of the pipelines. Finally, analyzing and extracting the data of underground pipeline network. Carrying on the secondary development on the MapX platform, realizing the visualization function of graphics, and can do some operations like edit and modify; through reading 2D CAD data file, calling OpenGL graphics function for 3D display, and realizing some functions like roaming,rotation,translation and zoom in three-dimensional scene. Through using selection and feedback theory of OpenGL, realizing the acquisition of attribute dada.Visual C++ is used as the development environment. OpenGL and MapX are used to draw scenes of pipelines; access is adopted as database management system, and realizes the three-dimensional underground pipeline network visualization system of Xi'an University of Science and Technology in LinTong.
