In the undergraduate study of the courses around control technology, it is not realistic to make experiments on real industry process, but the pure digital simulation is not quite perceptual and impressive. Therefore it is valuable to have some real control objects that can be run in the laboratory to improve the teaching efficiency and the lab's facility. The work done in writing this thesis is an attempt to design an apparatus with the attributes of a temperature controlled object, aiming at the better understanding of knowledge and practice ability of the students via the experiments based on this apparatus. This apparatus, as a temperature controlled object, is a design that is based on a novel microcontroller MSP430F149, and incorporated with Pt100 temperature sensing circuit, thyristor heater, PWM fan driver, as well as the keypad and LCD. The apparatus performs data acquisition, heater power control, the revision of model's parameters. And the apparatus interacts with the controller (e.g. a PC) by means of either analog I/O channels or digital communication linkage, and thus forms a temperature control system. From the viewpoints on hardware, software and control strategy, the thesis makes a detailed description of the modules that are components of the apparatus. The thesis is ended with two approaches to set up laboratory temperature control system with the designed control object.
