The GSM mobile terminal RF (Radio Frequency) test mainly aims at the testing of the GSM mobile terminal in three kinds of performance parameters as RF power, modulation quality and receiving sensitivity. In order to meet standard requirement at RF performance, every GSM mobile terminal must be RF tested during being produced. This is a very big burden for the tester. This paper offers a low cost and high efficiency solution of GSM mobile terminal test system based on VI (Virtual Instrument) technology.This paper introduced the principle and method of RF test firstly, based on the analysis of the RF test systems used normally in most factories now, and proposed the research of the RF test system based on VI technology. In the software design aspect, we select LabVIEW language through studying the test principle and the test system instruction. This test software had passed my debugging, and the test results in the form of Excel sheets generated the report of the GSM mobile terminal RF power, the receiving sensitivity and phase & frequency error etc. The VI panel design is very simple and clear, and very easy to use for the operators. The function of every layer and how to design were presented, the main flowchart and sub flow of RF test are given out. Then, through comparing and analyzing the test results, testify the system test results is very accurate, reliable and repeatable.The RF test system based on VI technology satisfied the requirement of the output expansion of communications terminals manufacturers. This system has have high accuracy in terms of test time, test accuracy and test error.
