In order to satisfy the growing of high-speed mobile data services, especially the demand for mobile Internet business, wireless broadband access system is also developing rapidly like cellular mobile communication system. As one of the most potential access technologies in the next-generation communications networks, broadband wireless access technology is getting more and more attention.World Interoperability for Microwave Access is a new-generation broadband wireless metropolitan area network access technology. WiMAX technology, which based on IEEE 802.16e, is generally known as mobile WiMAX. As a new solution of broadband wireless access technology, it uses common wide area broadband wireless access technology and flexible network architecture to promote the combination of mobile and fixed broadband networks.In February 2007, ITU-R WP8F Working Group issued a circular to all countries, hoped to start the evaluation of IEEE 802.16e to become one criteria of IMT-2000. Products based on IEEE 802.16d standard can provide a proven quality assurance of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services. Mobile WiMAX system is more complex, the delay requirement is higher, and many issues need to be solved.This paper introduced broadband wireless access and wireless metropolitan area network technology at first, analyzed the system architecture and key technologies of WiMAX system based on IEEE 802.16e, and described aims and methods of WiMAX system simulation briefly. Then the paper focused on the overall design and the specific modules design of simulation platform for the mobile WiMAX system, especially the VoIP model and resource scheduling mechanism in mobile WiMAX system.Finally the paper particularly described the realization of simulation platform for the mobile WiMAX system. After setting link-level parameters, L2S interface parameters and system-level parameters, simulation results of uplink and downlink were shown, and the evaluation of system performance in view of VoIP was completed.
