GPRS technology plays an important role in evolving mobile telecommunication system to 3G WCDMA. 3G mobile telecommunication system mainly consists of Circuit Switch Domain (CS), Packet Switch Domain (PS) and IP Multimedia System (IMS). In 3G system, Packet Switch Domain is the basic platform in implementing various data applications which differentiate 3G from current mobile system, therefore researching and understanding it becomes very important. As a major operator in Jiangxi's mobile telecommunication market, it is necessary for Jiangxi Unicom to provide advanced and competitive high speed mobile data services by building a GPRS system based GSM network at present.After taking careful consideration on China Unicom HQ's requirements, the circumstance of Jiangxi Unicom's existing GSM network, an IP address optimization is performed for Gn, Gi interface and MS, and a scientific arrangement is performed for network organization and router plan. To ensure network security, a full solution which comprises advanced technologies such firewall, IP address isolation and transform is put in place. The GPRS PS network can provide following services to end users: applications based on WAP,MMS,JAVA, Internet service etc. This paper gives an example on MS browsing Web page over WAP over GPRS.This paper focuses the theoretical analysis and engineering implementation of GPRS PS core network, mainly from following aspects such as GPRS System Overview, GPRS PS Domain's principle, implementation solution of Jiangxi Unicom's GPRS PS core-network, system testing, system property analyzing and the evolution to 3G etc. At present, this GPRS system has gone into operation .application has implemented such as WAP,MMS JAVA services over GPRS at Jiangxi Unicom's GSM mobile network. The author herself has been participated the important project progress from beginning to end, including GPRS system planning, engineering acceptancing job.
