A Study Of Topic Map Technology In Knowledge Organization For Digital Library

With the increasing of the knowledge resources, traditional knowledge organization encounters difficulties in new applications. Topic Maps, as a new type of knowledge organization skills and knowledge representation language, are known as a bridge between information management and knowledge management, and become a hot point in the field of knowledge organization and representation. The knowledge organization based on topic maps has aroused particular concern home and abroad by Digital Library and the computer industry, and it become an emerging area of research and application in the knowledge organization of Digital Library.Digital Library, as an important part of the national information infrastructure, has become an important Web-based application framework system increasingly. For the network characteristics, many people develop new organizational methods and tools, and topic maps have emerged in this context. The characteristic of topic map is giving an abstract of the resources or concepts and definite the relationship between the resource and concepts, reflecting the structure of knowledge. In order to achieve effective navigation between Digital Library resources, the fundamental requirement is to establish the link between content resources, in particular the electronic index of the resources. In addition to refer the users' needs, it can design a knowledge framework with its properties of the special topic resources.Therefore, this article describes the basic principles and ways and means on Digital Library knowledge organization systematically, and introduces the basic theoretical framework of the topic maps, including the data model, norms and basic grammar, and some other major development technology .It explores the feasibility that topic map technology use in knowledge organization of Digital Library, and the objectives of the Digital Library knowledge organization model. Finally, it gives the methods and steps of the model experimentally.In the Digital Library knowledge organization system, I would like to take the topic map technology to achieve knowledge navigation of Digital Library collections. First, it collects resources, build ontology. Then use this marker XTM, and link the topic to related resources. Finally it structures user interface, displays the topic maps with visualization tools.
