Design And Implementation Of The Manager In NETCONF-based Network Management System

The computer network has grown for more than half a century since it generated in the 50s of the last century. Now, network becomes a part of our life, Internet,the LAN and even the GPRS for the mobile communication all reflect the power of the network. As the network develops, it brings some rising industries such as the network games,network chatting and downloading the film and video from the web. At the same time, network media and the e-business bring tremendous chance to many enterprises.The network management technology develops closely interrelated to the computer network, the technology of network management becomes more and more important since the rapidly developments of the computer network especially for the growing of the Internet. In recent 10 years, the network has grown into large scale and more complicated one, the traditional SNMP can't meet nowadays network management requirements. People can not stand the born congenitally deficient of the configuration management. So after hard study, the IETE and NETCONF made new network management protocol NETCONF which received warm applause when it distributed and it was intended to be the standard protocol in Nov. 12,2006.The NETCONF protocol totally bases on the XML, its massages and management data both are described by XML, it applies the advantage of XML to network management well, which makes it to be the best solution of the next generation network management. At the present time, many international well-known research institutes and network equipment manufacturers have paid attention to the study and realization of the NETCONF protocol. In this thesis, we study the issue of applying the NETCONF protocol into the next generation network management according to the perspective and the application requirements of the next generation network management.After seriously analyzing the well used network management technologies, we study the NETCONF protocol carefully and propose a solution of the manager of the NETCONF-based network management system. We apply the XML to describe the management information and the management message; it uses the SOAP over HTTP for transforming. Considering the compatibility with the existing network management protocol, we bring in a gateway, which can realize the translation between the NETCONF and SNMP and the NETCONF with the public protocol such as the Telnet. Furthermore, as for the content layer that isn't discussed in NETCONF, after synthetically analyzing the popular data modeling language we propose a solution that is suitable for the content layer of the NETCONF, and this new solution makes the next generation network more configurable. At last, we conclude this thesis and make an outlook of the discussed technology.
