The Research Of Ontology And Its Usage In Knowledge Management System

In knowledge economic era, knowledge is a strategic resource for the organization. Knowledge management is a strategic reaction for new situation. Meanwhile, knowledge management as a new technology, its goal is to improve whole organization cooperation abilities, which can make user to gain their desired information in the most appropriate time, so it will realize the best decision-making. However, in traditional knowledge management system, it is difficult for users to find their demand information because of information lacking unique semantic descriptions. How to make the information which users want to obtain have the meaning which can be understood by application program, it is very convenient for user to find their desired information resources and implement semantic fusion according to information resource which have some field knowledge. All these questions are the challenges which the present knowledge management system is faced with.The problems mentioned above can be solved by ontology. Using ontology, information can be expressed as knowledge that can be comprehended by computer, and the user can search information by semantic way. Thereby, the efficiency of general and exact searching information has been improved in this way. This paper discusses the application of ontology in the knowledge management system, analyses the method of transforming the E-R model into OWL ontology by the reference of constructing management of information system, introduces how to construct ontology based on model using the XML, RDF and the OWL delivered newly by W3C and how to use the parsing tools of ontology, and briefly introduces the procedure of developing a knowledge management system frame based on ontology. The whole paper includes four parts:The first part introduces the basic concepts of knowledge management and knowledge management system, the developing status and based knowledge of knowledge management system home and abroad. Then the present researching situation of ontologies home and abroad was introduced.The second part introduces the concepts, modeling prototype, classification, construction criterion as well as the commonly constructing method of ontology. Then, existing ontology description languages were analyzed in detail, and several ontology description languages based on Web were compared with each other. OWL language is the best among them. Meanwhile, it is also the W3C standard.The third part researches how to apply Ontology Web Language (OWL) to constructing domain ontology model. A corporation's existing information system (MIS), with the help of database modeling CASE tools, was converted to E-R model by semi-automatic reversed engineering. The paper also proves that the converting method From E-R to OWL ontology is semantic maintaining transformation.The last part discusses the requirement analysis of knowledge management, which includes knowledge management and the problems need to be solved. The implement of semantic retrieval, as knowledge management system taking full advantage of Ontology, is content with transforming right knowledge to the suitable person at the most appropriate time.
