The Application Of Digital Measurement In Modern Furniture Design

The design and manufacture of modern furniture is entering into the moment of custom-made. With the development of the computer aided technology, the automation extent of the furniture design and production achieves remarkable success that people can choose the style, color and materials of the furniture by their demands. Meanwhile, the technology of human body measurement has made rapid progress by turning from simple person touched method to advanced non-contact measurement. This progress will develop the furniture custom-made. The consideration of this paper is that under the circumstance of the non-contact, how to acquire the related body dimension fast and conveniently which is usually used by designing furniture.At present, the technology of non-contact body measurement has not been studied and applied in furniture field. After analyzing the actualities of the anthropometry research at home and abroad, this paper gives a method of photogrammetry to realize the purpose that acquires body dimension fast. The method is based on nature light, digital image as the measured object and dimension result picked up by image processing.This paper mainly researches three sections including the measurement items of body dimension, camera recording, image processing, and the error analysis. The results of digital photogrammetry method are compared with the results of the traditional method. Measurement items are treated with the error statistics of single item. Meanwhile, each error of the measurement items is analyzed by considering the experiment condition and the image processing method. This paper summarizes several factors that caused the dimension error, and gives some method to improve the digital photogrammetry.In the conclusion, this paper makes a summary with the process and method in the digital human body photogrammetry, and concludes that is measure method can be used in the field of the furniture design. At last, it indicates the existent problems and insufficiencies in the experiment. The method has some referenced significance to furniture design and production.
