With the rapid development of the optics, mechanic-electron and computer industry, it requires the measuring instruments with much higher quality, such as precision ,automation and great efficiency. Blocking laser scanning principle which is a high-precision, non-contact measurement photoelectric system is presented to test the bullet radial dimensions. Owing to the non-contact character of optical measuring instruments and no measuring force, there is no wearing and tearing contacts when measuring the shell, especially, using in the optical-electric sensor, which makes the system have a higher precision.Aimed directly at measuring the larger bullet radial dimensions, blocking laser scanning measurement principle is presented and described in this paper, and discussed the overall structure of the system. It chooses the semi-conductor laser as light source, optical grating as displacement detection system, and data collecting and processing system is composed of single chip and computer. It achieves the axial and radial measurements of the bullet. The paper involves optics, photo electricity sensor technology, grating moire stripe, precision mechanism and computer control. It has many functions. High precision and non-contact measuring is the characteristic of the instrument. It also has wide application foreground.
