Next generation digital library should be an organization which could provide a series of services with faster adaptability to a wider clientele. Compared with typical digital library, next generation digital library architecture will be rooted in the increased heterogeneity of content, services and metadata, in the higher degree of distribution and dynamics. Traditional digital library can no longer keep up with these trends, distributed network management in the mainstream. P2P has defined a protocol specification for resource and services sharing some tasks that can not be done by some component models. Meanwhile, P2P provides a simple mechanism to process remote procedure call in a loose and distributed environment. The combination of P2P and network management technology has an excellent application prospect. The applications of P2P in digital library can rapidly develop powerful and large-scale distributed applications with low cost.In the first part of this paper, basic technology section, we give a detailed summary and analysis about the P2P related concepts, current application and characteristics as well as the advantages against other methods. Following that, the selective analysis domestic and foreign P2P technology in Digital library's application present situation, the overseas development has been then quick, but the domestic development was slow, we might study and profit from the overseas successful experience fully. The paper has independently designed a based on P2P Digital library prototype system——P2PDL, carries on the strategy to key technologies to analyze and to realize the method analysis. This system uses emphatically based on the super node Chord link component branch network; Carries on the expansion to OAI-PMH, enables it to apply in the P2P environment, proposed based on the Ontology metadata interoperability pattern, introduces the semantic cover cluster's pattern in our system, has provided the detailed method for system's isomerism pattern interoperability and the metadata conformity.The article had a summarization about applied involves such as situations infringement copyright, information filtration, wide band use to make the outline and so on, proposed in the technical security faces main threat, simultaneously brief construction network security defensive system. Finally summarized the present stage work, and made to the next step research has conceived and forecasts.
