Today's society, the trend of children-books'design as toys is becoming evident. In international market, the children's pop-up book as a separate category has a history of few hundreds of years. Nowadays, they are becoming indispensable educational toys. In China, pop-up book designers are limited in the field of binding design without breakthroughs. This paper theoretically analyzes children's pop-up books from the angle of the educational toy, presents the design criteria and innovative approaches of the children's pop-up book, and made it into used in practice.This paper firstly analyzes the background of the research: children are the hope of China's future and also the hope of their parents. But the phenomena of dropping out of school makes educators forced to reassess the failure of education methods. The question of how to cultivate good reading habits and lay good foundation for children has become more important for parents, and also an inescapable social responsibility for designers. So a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the children's pop-up book appears to be particularly important. This paper recollects the history of pop-up book's developing process, introduces special producing technology and worldwide collecting situation, and introduces unique and novelty pop-up books of different types. Finally, this article analyzes the issues of safety, function, artistry, age, vividness of pop-up books from the perspective of product design, and present that the design of pop-up books have to take children's characters and habits into consider, as well as to integrate China's ancient culture and diversity of materials. At the end of this paper, the article describes the design and practice situation, and also introduces the creating ideas and producing methods.
