High Level Architecture has become the common standard in the field of simulations. But when HLA is applied to hardware in the loop simulation, its poor real-time performance has not been resolved. With the development of economy, the demand for simulation systems especially for real-time simulation systems is increasing; on the other hand, the research on real-time performance essentially is the research on efficiency of simulation system. The research results will promote the development of the whole area of simulation. Therefore, the research on the real-time performance does not only have theoretical value, but also has realistic meaning. This study has always been hotspot on the research of simulations.In this paper, the methods to improve real-time performance of HLA are discussed deeply. After comparing the methods, interconnection technology of high level architecture multi-federations was made the main research orientation. After thoroughly analyzed the technical difficulty and feasibility of interconnection technology, HLA bridge was chose because its complexity is moderate. According as the demands of this subject, the method that use HLA bridge to interconnect simulation systems as parallel process is selected. At home and abroad the research objective of HLA bridge is to interlink heterogeneous federations. The real-time performance on the simulation system based on HLA bridge has not been researched. For this situation, the structure of HLA bridge based on RTI and gateway is designed and realized in this paper.To test the real-time performance of simulation system based on HLA bridge, time advance speed of the simulation system is tested. Experimental results showed that the efficiency of bridge system is about twice as much as the efficiency of unbridged system. The results of the test were in accord with the requirement of task At last, to show the difference on real-time performance between bridge system and unbridged system clearly, a multi-agent program is designed. The program was tested on both bridge system and unbridged system. The result shows that the efficiency of bridge system is about twice as much as the efficiency of unbridged system.
