With the developments of the electric industry and urban and rural power network in China, XLPE power cables application is promoted by the government in recent years, and the market of XLPE power cables is expanding constantly. At present, cables production lines mainly rely on imports which are very expensive, so it can not be applied in a large scale. Therefore, it has important scientific and applied values to research on and domestically produce XLPE cables production lines.This paper mainly designs electric parts of XLPE cables production lines. The control system is built on the core of PLC. This paper consists of several parts: designing automatic control system based on SIEMENS TIA, centralizing management of all distributing controllers through PLC, configuring PLC hardware and programming on SIMATIC Step 7 environment, and designing HMI by configuration software WinCC.According to the controlled objects, the control system can be divided into temperature control subsystem and motor speed control subsystem.Temperature control subsystem measures temperatures of 24 objects, among which 22 temperatures need to be controlled. Temperature control bases on independent closed-loop control mode. In operation, 18 temperatures are controlled by PID algorithm, 2 temperatures are controlled by delay comparison algorithm and 2 temperatures are controlled by manually operation.Motor control subsystem respectively controls speeds of one DC motor and two asynchronous motors. The speed control of the DC motor uses the closed-loop control method by DC motor speed controller and optical encoder.the speed Control of the asynchronous motor use the closed-loop control method by frequency converter optical and encoder. PLC is applied to centralize management of those drivers based on PROFIBUS.This paper designs all parts of this system in detail and debugs the hardware and software in the laboratory environment. The experiments show the design proposed by this paper is feasible.
