With developing and appearing of micro-electronics technology, Fieldbus technology has already attracted attention of instrument industry at home and abroad. Modbus fieldbus is a technology which efficiently supports distributed real time with a very high level of security, It attracted attention with a very high level of capability, a very high level of security, a very better of anti-jamming, a very fast of communication speed, a very low of maintenance cost and a particular design, It was regarded a fieldbus with expansibility. With repid-developing of fieldbus technology, the traditional instrument will be affected, and it will be replaced with the instrument based on fieldbus. Compared with the old control system, the monitoring system based on fieldbus technology is developmental tideway. So, it is realistic meaning to research and develop energy monitoring system of enterprise based on Modbus fieldbus.Firstly, an overall scheme of energy source monitoring system based on Modbus fieldbus is proposed. In the overall scheme, we established function of monitoring system, cleared its structure and implement method, which will determine the direction for the each module design.Secondly, the specific hardware and software of intelligent flow totalizer were designed. The parts that compose hardware design for flow totalizer was described in detail and specific circuit diagrams attached instructions were given. For flow totalizer's intelligence, a specific math model according to different input was established and the implementation process of primary modules was provided. These laid a solid foundation for intelligent flow totalizer realization.Afterward, on the basis of analyzing Modbus protocol, this paper devises application layer communication protocol which agrees with this monitoring system, which solves the communication problem of intelligent flow totalizer and host computer in theory.Finally, the host computer monitoring software were designed and completed. The relation and function of each module which compose monitoring software were discussed, especially the realization method of each module, besides we proposed a new communication method, which solve the data sharing problem of VB and RSView32.This enterprise energy source monitoring system has been brought into use and achieved good effect. The conclusion of this paper can be used as an example for the manufacturers who produce monitoring device. It has a certain value of reference for the development of monitoring technology based on fieldbus in our country.
