In recent years, with the rapid development and union of rapid prototyping (short for RP) technology and reverse engineering (short for RE) technology, RE/RP has been widely applied in the medical treatment. In the area of the medical CT treatment, so much attention has been paid to research on reconstruction by RE and RP.It is convenient for doctors to observe each part of image constitution clearly by using the method of image processing. Based on the result of 2D image processing, the 3D data model which could be accepted by the rapid prototyping system could be reconstructed by 3D reconstruction technology. The medical model which is manufactured by the rapid prototyping machine can bring benefit to doctors for learning much information about state of an illness, and now it is mainly used in medical diagnosis and surgical scheme. The application of the RP technology rapid machine can improve the level of diagnosis and surgical, shorten time and reduce the cost. So we can get the rapid prototyping data of false body through the cross section image processing, and produce the false body material object model in view of the above, now this technology also becomes one of the most active research project in the rapid prototyping field.This paper discusses the CT images processing and the 3D reconstruction methods based on the image processing theory and computer graphics. According to above theories, a CT image processing and STL modal reconstruction system is developed and then the manufacture of the medical model is achieved rapidly through the rapid prototyping technology.The main research of this paper faces to the modeling technology of CT slice data by RE/RP, the entity CT data is processed, and the route of medical model rapid development is put forward, based on CT images, with RE/RP directly integrated. In the paper, the key technologies of 3D reconstruction from medical CT are studied, and some concerned principles and algorithms are analyzed, including image preprocessing, segmentation and extraction of human tissues or organs, contours simplifying, 3D surfaces reconstruction from contours, and so on. Based on the 3D reconstruction theories, and arithmetic and a program that can construct 3D data model of single filed connect are developed. Using the contour data that are obtained above, this program can build a STL file which consists of many triangles, and the format of STL file accords with the software interface of CAD in common use. Finally using the Stereo lithography Apparatus technology to carry on the model processing, the material model is obtained by finding a group of relatively appropriate processing craft parameters.
