Reverse engineering and rapid prototyping as the important branches of agile manufacturing (AM), which play critical roles of product concept design and complex design. Integrating them can carry out rapidly copy parts, reconstruct and modify CAD model, adjust rapid prototyping parameters.Time has become the major role in the market competition, so the direct integration of reverse engineering and rapid prototyping is becoming important more and more.This thesis aims at tapping the direct integration system of reverse engineering and rapid prototyping. We had known that STL model and cloud data model all can be obtained by the measure system and rapid prototyping where a part is built gradually by adding materials layer-by-layer. Therefore, acquire layer contour data of these two kind models is critical to the integration of RE and RP. So the paper studies problems of STL slicing and data cloud slicing significantly.In STL slicing, effective slicing must base on extracting topological relationship among triangular facets. The existing arithmetic is too confused and calculates a lot. A new algorithm is put forward to settle these problems to simplify the calculation and topological relations.Point cloud slicing, which including much contour data processing, such as preprocess of cloud data model, contour data reduction, sorting, smooth and interpolation of middle contour, is much more complex than STL slicing. This thesis discusses these questions in detail and brings forward many new algorithms respectively. Thirdly, the defects of uniform thickness slicing are stated in this thesis and new ways of adaptive slicing of STL model and point cloud model are put forward.Finally, taps software system that can put adaptive slicing of STL and point cloud into practice from begin to end by use of VC and openGL to programm on the base of above theory study. A point cloud model and STL model come from ATOS measure systems which be utilized to experiment in MEM-350 rapid prototyping machine. At the same time, compare the personalities and precision of two methods.
