The Design And Implementation Of Electronic Program Guide Based On Mobile TV

With the development of mobile communication and television broadcasting, the mobile phone television business based on the combination of these two technologies has attracted great public attention. The DVB-H standard applied in terrestrial digital television broadcasting has a larger bandwidth when compared to that used in 3G network and hence becomes a good option for mass multimedia services. With the increasing variety of digital TV programs, how to easily browse through those programs and how to efficiently locate the program the user may be interested in have become the major concerns of mobile phone television users. The EPG (Electronic Program Guide) emerges just to give us a feasible solution to those problems.This dissertation focuses on the design and implementations of EPG running on Mobile TV, which based on researching the background of mobile TV. It includes the development of Mobile TV in domestic and overseas as well as the technology of DVB-H standard that forms the main component of mobile TV technology.One of the major concerns in designing the EPG is the limited memory size in mobile phone. Thus a module used for memory management is added in the module of service information database. The responsibilities of the memory management module are dynamically and efficiently allocate and collect memory to make EPG runs more smoothly and efficiently. Other modules such as service module and user interface module as well as the database access sub-module of service information database module are also implemented to provide mobile phone TV users with functionalities of displaying detailed information about programs and searching programs by content or time period.Such a program like EPG that can help user navigate through various TV programs with little effort should have great application significance in the nearest future.
