Virtual reality technology is one of hot points in the computer field at home and abroad. It is getting its development with consistent research and practice. It has built up a very vivid interactive environment with the assistances of computer, which enables the users to interact with the targets in a natural way to result in a kind of true feelings and experiences. It is widely used in the fields of military, city designing, tourism, entertainment, engineer designing, medicine, education and so on. Virtual reality technology, internet and multimedia are called three main prosperous technologies in practice.Virtual Campus Walk-through System is the integrity application of virtual reality technology. This thesis focuses on the study of virtual reality walk-through technology based on Geometry-based modeling and rendering, which views the internet of Shandong College of Electronic Technology as virtual space.The thesis is made up of five parts. The first part makes introduction of virtual reality walk-through technology, introducing the research trends at home and abroad and background and significance of virtual campus walk-through system. The second part mainly makes the statement of virtual campus walk-through system's designing, including the option of the fixing of the system designing target, the basic system researching scheme, the design of the system function structure, the performing process of the system, and the option of develop situation. In the third part the comparison of currently existing 3D modeling technology is made and the mixed modeling technology used in this system is selected. The setup of virtual campus scene models and the optimization design are made, in which the ground mode, building model sky model and tree model is included. In order to enhance the level of virtual campus, based on the established campus model in the fourth part the study mainly focuses on the realization of virtual campus walkthrough system's interactive function, including the function of system interaction, auto-navigation, collision-detection, picking methods and enucleating methods. The specific calculating is provided. In the fifth part there is a summary of the thesis, raising the aspects that need perfection and making a prospect of the future research orientation.The experiment proves the fulfillment of the basic function and partial improvement function that virtual campus walk-through system should possess and reappears 3D modeling view. So users can freely walk through in the 3D virtual campus and a series of interactive manipulation filled with true sense is realized.The research on the system is useful for the management of the campus plan, which provides some reference experience for the study of 3D modeling, scene walk-through, interactive method, virtual community, virtual city.
