In recent years, Virtual Reality (VR) technology has been widely used in many fields, such as city planning, engineering, medicine, culture heritage reservation, tourist industry, and teachings etc. As one of the most important parts in the research of VR system, the virtual walkthrough technology enables users to view and experience the virtual environment freely with human-computer interactive technology. Using the campus of CCNU as a virtual space, the technology of Geometry-based Modeling and Rendering virtual walkthrough was discussed in this paper.At first, the algorithms of virtual walkthrough were discussed. Based on the theory of VR modeling and the characteristic of system, Geometry-based modeling and rendering scheme was choosed to create the virtual campus scene with the outstanding VR modeling and simulating software of MultiGen Creator and Vega.The modeling process and implement scheme of the 3D scene was put up in the paper and the key modeling technology has been researched with MultiGen Creator. The modeling of visual campus scene also has been created and optimized.Three picking methods were discussed in the paper. By using Vega API. generalized bounding box of the model was established, the picking was realized. The collision-detection algorithms of space division method and bounding volume boxes method were introduced, collision-detection was realized with the Isector instance of Vega.Lastly, the executing process of Vega was discussed, and the technologies of interactive walkthrough and walkthrough along path were realized.
