The Reestablishment And Application Of The Modes Of Crisis Communication In The Network Era

With the development of globalization, the world has been turning into a whole entity. Crisis has been a challenge to every nation which has taken various forms from 9/11 terrorism in US to SARS, from bird flu all over the world to southern snowstorm calamity in China. With the advent of the network era, the growth of new media technology enables crisis to broadcast more rapidly and more popularly. Meanwhile, the effects and harm of crisis are also amplified greatly. As a result, it is a demanding problem has to be resolved concerning how to react to crises in the network era.Starting with the characteristics of the network era, this paper combines the crisis communication modes both in western countries and in China, and tries to make an in-depth analysis on the characteristics of these new modes of crisis communication in the network era. This paper aims to study how to face all the characteristics of these new modes, and then tries to establish a specified mode of crisis communication in ChinaThis paper mainly discusses four topics as following: first, the new characteristics of crisis communication in the network era, that is amplification, barrier-freedom, interactivity and complexity; second, the establishment of crisis communication modes in the network era, which is scattered, without center; third, the comparison of the different modes of crisis communication between western countries and China as well as the shortcomings of modes in China; fourth, the efforts attempting to improve the crisis communication modes in China from the point of network media.This paper chiefly applies the data analysis method and the case study method. On the ground of collecting materials about crisis management and new media, this paper integrates the theories as well as the practice of communication and crisis management, makes quantitative and qualitative analysis with the purpose of drawing its own ideas and conclusion.In the end, the writer thinks that we should actively make use of the advantageous factors of network media as well as limit or even eliminate its adverse effects. We may resolve the crisis under the effective communication modes by information gathering, warning and feedback with the help of network media.
