In recent years, with the rapid development of the local telephone network, the workload of maintenances on the network is increasing. Traditionally the maintenance form is completed half manually; this way of maintenance brings the preservation of information inconvenient and low efficiency in inquiring. In this thesis, the development status on the maintenance of the telephone exchange is analyzed, and shortcomings are found; Based on the facts mentioned above, the maintenance information system on LAN telephone exchange is established. Further research shows that the system is well founded practically and theoretically, and is feasible technically. It has broad application prospects. In the first part of the thesis the origin and background of the project is described; following is a preliminary analysis on the functions that the system should have; and then proceed with the feasibility study and needs analysis, further analysis of system functions; the modules map is presented afterward. According to contents and demand of the maintenance, the information system is designed to eight modules. The functions of the database and modules are achieved by combining with SQL Server 2000 and Powerbuilder 9.0. The software package is tested and further modification is made. This system utilizes existing LAN systems, the database system is installed on a server, and clients are installed on the subunit PC. This constitutes client / server architecture. Maintenance personnel can easily use the clients to add, modify and inquire all the informations. The system uses SQL Server 2000 database management system. The analysis, designation and development of the maintenance information system on LAN telephone exchange are carried out with Powerbuilder 9.0.
