The Research Of Subject-oriented Library Digital Reference Service

Digital reference service(DRS), a succession, extension and new development of traditional reference in web environment, is a new library service emerged in the middle and late 1990's abroad. The subject-oriented digital reference service is a new thing present to the specific condition in order to meet the needs of the users with higher information quality, and to maintain the authority of the library as the reliable specialty information guider. In China, the subject-oriented digital reference service is on the initial stage. This paper aims to make a comparative study on the subject-oriented DRS, Briefly introduce the basic theory of subject-oriented DRS, including background, reason, significance and service modes, and then analysis the core problems for the subject-oriented DRS, which are information resources, reference librarians, reference cooperative system. Finally indicate the evaluating indicator and evaluating methods. Based on study and research, some ideas and suggestions are brought forward, I hope these can direct and instruct the development of the subject-oriented DRS for the future.
