With the development of modern science and technology and the improvement of living standard, people put forward a higher demand on domestic security. As the characteristics of intuitive, convenient and rich of the information content, the video surveillance is widely applied to various kinds of security systems. However, the existing monitoring systems for domestic are mostly with a low level of intelligence, and they cannot be adapted to domestic security systems better. Therefore, research and development of intelligent domestic video monitor system to meet the requirements of people is of great significance.For the shortcomings of the existing domestic video surveillance systems, we selected the ARM9-based chip S3C2410 of SAMSUNG Company as CPU, and expanded the USB camera, internet chip, infrared sensor module, LCD screen, keyboard and other peripheral equipments to design a kind of ARM-based intelligent domestic network video surveillance system. The main features of the system include: the camera acquired the images and the LCD displayed them; we can view the domestic situation based on ARM through the Internet on a PC outdoors; the images would be transmitted after compression; when the face was detected, a message would be sent to inform the owner that the occurrence of the invasion; the face can be detected by the interception of images; the images that detected face were to stored after compression.The selecting of the various hardware models of the system, the performance parameters of hardware, hardware pins and register parameters as well as the interface methods between the various hardware are described in this paper. The embedded Linux is used as the operating system in the part of software. The bootstrap program, the Linux system after cutting and file system are transplanted to the target board. On the basis of this, the image acquisition of camera and display on the LCD, the face detection algorithm based on skin and template matching, image compression algorithm based on DCT translated, GPRS messages transmission, image network transmission and other software functions are realized.Experiments proved that this system can better achieve the desired functions. System has good stability and prospect.
