Polarization Controller (PC) is a very important device in the research of high-speed optical fiber communication system.Regardless of any polarization state in the input ports of fibre,people can adjust polarization controller to get arbitrary polarization state required in the output port.In addition, the polarization controller is still widely used in many areas of communications, for example,Optical fiber sensing, semiconductor optical amplifiers polarization analysis, and optical transmission in the optical storage and optical information processing.So the research of polarization controller has great economic and social benefits in the development of high-speed optical communication.FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is developped in 1980s.With the architecture and logic unit flexibility, high integration, as well as application of a wide range of characteristics, it can make Large-scale circuit and programmme flexible and is widely used in hardware control.Above all, the research work in the dissertation is summed up as following:1.The basic theory about polarized light and the Polarization Controller is analysed in detail, especially the principle of internal polarization controller.2.The design of hardware control unit design based on FPGA is analysed.The control theory, the voltage amplifier module, as well as the detailed design are analysed.The VHDL language on the application and embedded micro-controller are introduced.The IP core software is coded. Polarization controller and the FPGA control programme are coded.3.The relation between applied voltage and output SOPs and the repeating character of PC are studied based on experiments.A crystal polarization controller performance analysis tests to a polarization controller of the wave plate produced by the voltage phase delay are discussed .The relationship between and voltage and phase angle of curve is fitted.
