During 13 years, the VoIP technology has developing so fast that it has been the pop topic in telecom and computer field. All the telephone terminals in the voice gateway system communicate with others using IP data traffic including voice, text, picture, media and so on. When the 21st century comes, the IP network will develop into the NGN mode with any communication method, but the VoIP technology may be the one that every companies plan to use.First, the paper introduces the VoIP technology, including the three period of the VoIP development, the advantages compared with the traditional voice technology and the mainly relative protocol.The voice gateway based on AudioCodes is also named VLAC series voice gateway. Its DSP chip is AC483 which is developed by the AudioCodes Co..The second part of the paper particularly introduces the design and implementation of the voice gateway driver, including the software structure, the various functions that the driver must complete and how to control the relative chips. Besides, I also expand and perfect the RTP module, including transmits DTMF event and SID.In the third part, the test of voice gateway is introduced, the test plan includes capability test and function test. At the same time, the paper also introduces call completion rate, call maintenance time, voice quality and some other test content about driver.
