Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology breakthroughs of the traditional C/S model are becoming increasingly favored by people. At the same time, more and more applications based on P2P technology appears on the Internet, which cover data sharing, mass storage, and collaborative computing fields etc. However, P2P technology not only facilitates people but also brings troubles to the Internet. One of the troubles is over-occupation of bandwidth, especially for P2P file sharing applications. As data shows that from October 1997 to the end of 2006, more than half of the bandwidth of domestic long-distance backbone network is contributed by P2P applications. In majority regions and provinces, P2P traffic accounts for 60% to 70% of the whole traffic, in some regions the number reaches to 90%. Operator's bandwidth has increased, but not their income. Another trouble brings by P2P is their poor management which had result in more and more copyright violations. The United States has dealt with several cases against P2P network companies for their intelectual property violations. In domestic there is neither punishment for P2P infringement cases, nor relevant legislation on the P2P software business model and behavior, which further result in the spread of intellectual property violations.IP Multicast is a one-to-many transmission mode, which can greatly reduce network data traffic, thereby reducing backbone network bandwidth. However, most of routers running on the Internet don't support IP Multicast, which cut the Internet into many not-connected multicast domains. Traffic through two multicast domains can only be transferred by unicast. On the above analysis, a new controllable and manageable file distributing system has been designed and realized, which combines the advantages of P2P and IP Multicast technologies. It abandons technical defects of IP Multicast and P2P technologies and can also lower P2P traffic on backbone network.Through experiments on CERNET2 testing platform, multicast data accounts for 70% of whole traffic. This data shows that our system can significantly reduce network bandwidth occupation. This paper gives a detailed instruction of network topology, system architecture, modular design and realization of file distributing system ~ M6P2P.
