Wireless communication network has the problem of high error rate and this leads to the fact that the guarantee of QoS (Quality of Service) plays an important role in the performance of the whole communication system. In recent years, as the development of mobile broadband access networks and the increment of mobile users and mobile multimedia services, the design of QoS mechanism becomes more and more important and QoS has been the research hotspot in the mobile wireless communication field. It can be said that the guarantee of QoS will directly affect the performance of the whole communication system. IEEE 802.16 is a new leading technology in the broadband wireless access field. The research work of this thesis is focused on the mechanism of QoS guarantee in IEEE 802.16e, especially the call admission control, the scheduling algorithm.The thesis analyzes the characteristic of five kinds of service flows, and designs a call admission control algorithm which can support five kinds of service flows and handover service flow. The thesis introduces a scheduling method of firstly guaranteeing the lowest QoS requirement of each service flow. The whole scheduling process is divided into two sub-processes: the first sub-process is aimed to guarantee the lowest QoS requirement and the second sub-process is aimed to guarantee the highest QoS requirement. The mechanism above can guarantee service flow's lowest QoS requirements and improve the justice of bandwidth allocation at the same time. The thesis also introduces the implementation method of IEEE 802.16e MAC protocols on picoChip development platforms. The system architecture, subsystem partition, main data structure and implementation detail of the service flow active management framework and the call admission control algorithm are given in the thesis.The result of this thesis has been applied in the IEEE 802.16e broadband wireless access system in Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
