This thesis mainly discussed the research and design of embedded LRP system based on DM642.It expounded all aspects of this accomplished project in detail, including the alogrithm of LRP, the hardware and the software of embedded system.The significance and goal of this research was produced at the beginning based on a concise introduce of the present situation of embedded system and LRP.A kind of license plate location aglorithm which based on mathematical morphology was put forward. By the use of a license plate character segmentation method based on projection dichotomy, each character on the plate was segmented successfully. A kind of character recognition method was proposed based on projection characteristics matching. This hardware system is divided into two parts: video camera, DSP system. The paper mainly explains the optimization of LPR software running on DSP board. Because of the difference between DSP system and PC, we have to use many ways to optimize the software. We improved the parallelism of code, reduced the operations and used the optimized libraries supplied by TI. After the optimization, the system can work faster than before and it achieves request for application.In the end of this paper, some conclusions and foresights were given out.
