Metadata Application In China Digital Science And Technology Museum

Based on the key project of state-CDSTM (the China Digital Science and Technology Museum) project, the author did the research on the application of metadata in the project. The CDSTM project is trying to integrate the best digital resource in the three big organizations for science and education in China and supply uniform service to the society. As the basement of the integrating and the service, the function of metadata is the core.The paper's main purpose is to find out the way to build up the information platform and the general website of CDSTM to supply the uniform information service to the society finally. The author attended in the sub-item of the CDSTM project named "the construction of the network platform and the general website", after studied the metadata theory and the metadata's application in China, the paper started from the content frame of metadata, integration pattern of metadata, the service of metadata and the metadata's application in CDSTM project .the author studied the application of the metadata in the CDSTM project and elaborated the metadata's function in the project, then designed a model of resource integration and service under the condition of Internet based, multi-system, complex form and complex storage pattern.In the paper, the author mainly studied how to integrate the digital entity resource and it's metadata in the three digital virtual museum of CDSTM. Planned to using the metadata as the foundation of the platform for integration and service to provide the service of resource searching, locating, guiding and restructuring.After studied the standard of the CDSTM project which includes the metadata frame, the core metadata standard and the domain metadata standard, the resources integrative system model has been constructed, the metadata integration and the entity resources integration was completed. On this foundation it also provided the unification service by building up the general website.Based on the information sharing platform, the online resources submission tool and the management system has been designed and developed completely to manage the things as follows: the integrate site, the attribute of the flow media (server), the online submission mission, the metadata's harvesting as well as the arrangement of the entity resource and so on. The resource integrated platform system has been designed. It is made up of metadata management module, the resources integration engine, the metadata integration module, the entity resource integration module (including accurate verification module). The goal of the information resource integration is achieved completely.
