Any electronic product can not be separated from power,the improvement of performance relies heavily on the power management technology,particularly for portable devices. Portable devices are mostly powered by battery. With the products tending to the direction of light, thin,short and the multi-functional integration, the power requirements of portable devices are increasing all the time, but the energy density of battery is far behind of the speed. Therefore,it's needed that manage the power of whole system with the integrated viewpoint toreduce power consumption and extend the system work time.This paper,based on the analysis and research of the power management technology, draws the general scheme and the way to choose specific power management for portable device, and guide the two projects' power design.The thesis summarizes the development of the power management technology in brief,and introduce and analysis some key technology of power management. Then analyze the power demand of i.MX21 processor-based handsets,choose different power supply for the different power rails, then give some designes and tests. Test results show that the entire power system can run stabilitily,and has a high conversion efficiency.The key research of this paper is designing the power system of S3C2440 processor-based navigation. For this purpose,test the whole of the multi-channel, intelligent power management chip FS1610.The tests include the power output accuracy,Line Regulation,load characteristics,output power ripple performance,and so on. Then design the intelligent power management system on WinCE OS. The test results of the navigation system show that the scheme not only has good intelligent power management and control function,but also can significantly reduces PCB area,minimize system power consumption,improve power conversion efficiency,and effectively reduce EMI.
