The integration technology for mobile communication technologies and wireless network satisfied people to visit internet at any time by mobile terminals and realized dynamic link between mobile terminals and Internet, and achieved to maintain a seamless connection with the Internet without reconfiguration network terminals, even without disruption of the network conversation. The mobile IPv6 protocol, based on IPv6, has provided the support for those mobile network users.The process that mobile node still maintains its connectivity when moved from one access router (AR) to another access router is called handover. Handover technology is the most important element for the quality of service (QoS) and the key technology of mobile IPv6. Nowadays, there have been many types of handover technologies, such as Fast handover technology (FMIPv6), Hierarchical mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), Hierarchical fast mobile IPv6 (HFMIPv6), Adaptive handover and some other improved schemes. However, the existing mobile IPv6 handover technologies have some disadvantage, such as long handover latency, high packet loss rate, so it's difficult to meet the real-time applications which sensitive to time latency.In order to improve the handover performance and reduce handover delay and packet loss, this paper has done some research on those aspects, as following:1) Analyse and study the existing handover technologies, then give some comparison and evaluation on the performance of those handover technologies.2) Obtain an optimization handover scheme based on the handover technology of Hierarchical fast mobile IPv6 after analysis and studying the existing handover technologies. On the basic of HMIPv6, this scheme introduces the concept of regional anchor point (RAP) with the purpose of reducing the binding update messages between mobile node and home agent (HA) or correspondent node, thus lowering the handover delay. Combing several mobile anchor point (MAP) near by as an area, and the manager of this area is the regional anchor point. In other words, regional anchor point is home agent of mobile anchor point. 3) Introduce the working mechanism of the optimization scheme in detail. In this scheme, the care-of address of mobile node is composed of three parts: link care-of address (LCoA), MAP care-of address (MCoA) and regional care-of address (RCoA). And so the handover of MN is classified three kinds of situations: the first one is that MN moves in the same MAP; the second is that MN moves in the same RAP but different MAP; the last one is that MN moves in different RAP.4) By theoretical analysis and simulation analysis under OPNET environment, it is proved that the optimization scheme real holds the advantage of low latency and low packet loss rate, and has improved MN handover performance, so the optimization scheme is feasible and effective.
