The Fast Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6Protocol is an extension of the Standard Proxy Mobile IPv6Protocol. It draws on the experience of Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6, which introduces a pre-handover scheme mechanism and start internet-layer handover before the completion of the link-layer handover, in order to accelerate the entire handover process. While in the real applications, the moving nodes cannot exactly predict the new access point and then result in a longer latency time as well as more packets loss.After deeply studying the Fast Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6Protocol, in this paper, an enhanced FPMIPv6scheme is proposed to take the mobile node’s felse handover initialization into consideration. The idea of parallel, which is parallel between handover initialization and binding update and parallel between caching and forwarding, is introduced to lower the total cost caused by handover, that is, the previous Mobile Access Gate sends HI messages to the new Mobile Access Gate advanced to lower latency and the previous Mobile Access Gate creates a packets caching queue to cache the packets. The main work done in this paper including:(1) Modify the message format to send mobile node’s attributes and certification information when the previous MAG asks for handover Initialization.(2) In pre-handover stage, the new MAG sends Proxy Binding Update Message earlier to the Local Mobile Anchor to decrease the handover latency.(3) For the situation of the severe packet loss in a false handover initialization, a new function of caching packets is added to Mobile Access Gate which saved packets until the mobile node finish a correct handover.(4) Compare the handover cost of the Fast Proxy Mobile IPv6and the improved scheme theoretically and it shows that the latter performs better.(5) Simulate the Fast Proxy Mobile IPv6and the improved scheme in the Network Simulator, collect and analyze the Simulation data. The result is, this enhanced scheme performs better in a handover process than FPMIPv6in terms of time latency and packet loss rate.
